Hiring Domestic Servant

If a foreigner with the status of residence of "Business Manager" or "Legal/Accounting Services", he/she is able to hire aDOMESTIC SERVANT in Japan.

Requirements:

  • The position of a foreigner is the head of the office or equivalent such as directors. POINT 1
     
  • He/she has achild under the age of 13, or his/her spouse isunable to carry out normal daily housework due to illness orhis/her own work at the time of filing for permissionPOINT 2
     
  • A foreigner is able to hireONLY ONE domestic servant.
     
  • A domestic servant (employee) is able to have daily conversation by spoken language of a foreigner (employer).
     
  • A domestic servant is over 18 years of age.
     
  • Expected compensation to the domestic servant is 200,000 yen or higher a month.
     

POINT 1
The position of a foreigner shall be judged comprehensively by taking into consideration not only the name of position and titlebut also the size, form and type of business, compensation and authority level of a foreigner.

POINT 2
A foreigner is also able to hire a domestic servant if his/her spouse is unable to do housework because he/she is working in Japan with a working visa such as "Specialist in Humanities/International Services".

NOTES

  1. A domestic worker is permitted to enter Japan when an employer's child is under 13 when the worker enters the country. Therefore, when the child turns 13, the worker is still allowed to remain in Japan including the timing to extend his/her period of stay.
     
  2. The "Designated Activities" status may be granted for a domestic worker.
     
  3. If a foreigner has changed the status of residence from either of these statuses of residence to the "Permanent Resident", and he/she desires to continue hiring a current domestic servant, the permission of the "Designated Activities" status may be granted if there are rational reasons for the continued employment.
