Naturalization - Simplified Method

Foreigners Subjected to "Simplified Method"

Target Group

  1. A child (excluding an adopted child), whose father or mother was formerly a Japanese citizen, and who has been continuously residing or staying in Japan for three years or more and is currently residing in Japan.
  2. A child of a Japanese citizen (excluding an adopted child) who is currently residing in Japan.
  3. An adopted child of a Japanese citizen who has been continuously residing in Japan for one year or more, and was a minor at the time of the adoption under his/her national law.
  4. A person born in Japan, who has been continuously residing or staying in Japan for three years or more and is currently residing in Japan.
  5. A person born in Japan, whose father or mother (excluding an adoptive parent) was born in Japan, and who is currently residing in Japan.
  6. A person born in Japan, who has not having any nationality since his/her birth and has been continuously residing in Japan for three years or more since the birth.
  7. A spouse of Japanese citizen who has been continuously residing or staying in Japan for three years or more and is currently residing in Japan.
  8. A spouse of Japanese citizen who has been married for three years or more and continuously residing in Japan for one year or more.
  9. A person who has been continuously staying in Japan for ten years or more and is currently residing in Japan.
  10. A person who lost Japanese nationality (excluding a person who lost the nationality after his/her naturalization to a Japanese citizen) and is currently residing in Japan.
