  • The Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act was amended on November 28th, 2016. It allows foreign students who have studied and graduated from a care worker training facility and acquired the qualification of a certified care worker to engage in the work of nursing care or instructions on nursing care in Japan.
  • The Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act was amended on December 14th, 2018. It allows foreign nationals to work at nursing facilities if they possess certain level of skills and Japanese language.

・Foreign nationals who have graduated from a certified care worker facility in Japan and acquired the qualification of a certified care worker are eligible for this status of residence.

Foreign nationals can stay with their family in Japan.

Specified Skilled Worker (i)

1 year, 6 months, or

4 months

(Renewable)

Foreign nationals who have passed test of Japanese language and skills are able to acquire this status of residence.

・Maximum period of stay under this status of residence is for 5 years.

Foreign nationals with this status of residence can not stay with their family in Japan.
